I love this painting! I am becoming very partial to figurative paintings that tell someone's story, rather than a portrait designed to record someone's facial features. I suspect some people would argue that there is a very slim dividing line between "portrait" and "figurative" painting. But try this: go on one of the post-your-art sites and start scrolling for paintings of people, and note which paintings stop you for a second look and those which you don't even slow the mouse down for :) I contend figurative paintings, like yours at the top of this post, will stop that mouse way more often than will a staged portrait!
