Hope, Optimism and Determination are what I see on this evening before we celebrate our new President's first term.

I see it everywhere... It's on the faces and lips of the usual crowd who sits at Gelson's enjoying a bagel and a cuppa every morning.... even those who adamantly supported McCain. It's in those young Obama supporters like my son and his wife who are planning a get-together party for tomorrow night to celebrate together. I even see it on the TV news which is so often a downer. I believe we all face a mighty big challenge and I certainly don't envy Obama his daunting new job... but with hope, optimism and determination all of us together can help make our nation and the economy strong once more.

Karin Jurick's "Different Strokes From Different Folks" (DSFDF) Challenge was to paint the Jefferson Memorial. It's my first "night painting" and I found that taking the photo of the painting was almost worse than trying to paint the scene. I decided to use a sky I often see from my front door as the background just to make it a bit different. Hopefully Jefferson as well as Lincoln, King and others who have made a mark in our beautiful Capitol would approve. This was a fitting challenge for today and for the future. Thanks, Karin!
