This weekend was sad.  On two separate days I shared in ceremonies to cherish and preserve good memories for good people who have died.  

Yesterday, on Saturday my emotions went from joy at seeing the wonderful people I worked with at one of my schools to sadness over the loss of one of those colleagues.    That so many of them were able to be there to say goodbye was a testament to the respect and caring he deserved.  Although not "young" -- he was younger than I am and it was quite a shock that he is not among us any longer.

Today Tyler and Gastone and I spent time with several friends that I've known for most of my life.  We went to the ocean to scatter the ashes and say goodbye to my friend's adult child who died too young.  Today would have been her birthday.   My friend was strong but the pain was evident.  I'm glad she has a good husband who supports and cares for her.

Both days were a reminder to me that we all should be living each day as well as we can.  Not so that someone can say nice words about us at our funeral, but because really this journey we're on is a gift to be cherished for as long as we can. 

Why is it that we all seem to love sunsets?  They are beautiful but they do represent a kind of saying goodbye, don't they?   Perhaps it's because we know that with sunsets, there will be another beautiful day.
