Rivers:

I've been traveling around lately and have come across many rivers in many moods.   Some like this little stretch of the Kern River are wild and joyful as they cascade down through the rocks.   Others are lazy, enjoying the sun and beautiful surroundings as they slowly move toward the sea.

I have been busy painting every spare moment I have.   This painting, "Cascade", is one of many I'm working on at the moment.   It came about because I've become fascinated with capturing the feel or the expression of the movement of water rushing and crashing along over rocks and other impediments.  

Life:

In a way I almost feel like life becomes out of control like that.  Take today for example.  Up early to do my exercises and drag on something decent to wear so that I can get our 11-year-old to school on time.   Then a brief respite for a bite to eat between a visit to the cleaners and a return home to pick up materials for the day.   Off to the gallery to help one of my clubs with take in for the Winter Show.  Happily I'm teaching a new person my job and this is the last time I'll be doing this particular duty.    Every club needs volunteers.  The clubs benefit so many but it's the few that seem to do the work that hold it all together.   I've been Membership Chair for the club for 5 years and it's time someone else does the job.  ANYWAY...   as the juror came in and all of us worker bees were asked to leave, I took off to pick up the 11-year-old to take to the doctor for an appointment.   Then home.   Supervising some homework while I finished of the inside of the Show Program and created and printed the wall labels and awards for the show.   Missed dinner...  (husband very annoyed) because I had to drive the labels and other paperwork BACK to the gallery, so that the poor people who were doing the hanging of the artwork could finish up and get out of there.

Probably those who never volunteer have no idea of how much time, creative energy and just plan old grunt work it takes to make things happen for a club activity.  We'd all be pretty sad if there were not clubs, but for sure they wouldn't be there if it wasn't for those willing souls who do volunteer.  

Sometimes I wonder why I care whether I show my work.   But... I do.   I'm proud of it.

Show Opening on Saturday:

Both of my pieces were juried in to the show that opens this Saturday at the NoHo PAC.   One was awarded a prize!
