A few weeks back, the California Art Club met at Malibu Lagoon.  I always love painting with this group and hadn't been to the lagoon in a while, so despite an early afternoon doctor's appointment, I headed off to paint with them.   Past excursions to the coast with the group had been shrouded in fog and I was hoping this wouldn't happen on that day.   As it turned out there was some fog, but it looked like it might burn off, so I set up and started painting.   I enjoyed seeing the other painters as they came up the path to set up.  

Malibu Lagoon is a beautiful spot on the Southern California Coast. It is in the heart of Malibu... just north of Surf Rider Beach and southwest of Pepperdine University.

It is a paradise for bird watchers, environmentalists, nature lovers, beach goers and surfers. I love being there in the inspiring scenery while watching the multitude of wildlife that inhabits the area.

I put an 11x14 panel on my easel.   This turned out to be unwise, because I didn't have enough time to finish.  However, I got a good start trying to capture the ins and outs of the clearing mists and the lovely lagoon.  Unfortunately, I had to leave with an unfinished panel.

SO.... thinking I might finish my painting with another excursion, I headed back to the lagoon a few days later.   Well, it was a totally different scene on Monday when I went alone.  The sun was shining and the tides had pushed water back into the lagoon.  The birds were even more abundant than they had been the previous week.  I decided to start a new painting... a small 8x10.  I had a great time bird watching, painting, people watching and enjoying the beautiful weather.  

I even thought my painting turned out nicely!   -- A lovely day indeed!
