For my entire career as a teacher and principal, I have thought that if I could just help the children and adults that I influenced to celebrate learning, then my job was mostly accomplished. 

I actually may have learned that from my parents.  Dad was an aeronautical engineer at Lockheed until he retired over 30 years ago.  After he retired, he took up jewelry making and videography among other things.  I still enjoy wearing special necklaces and earrings that he made and although his eyesight now keeps him from doing the very small jewelry work, Dad continues to make videos today.  In fact one of the organizations that he belongs to awarded him one of the "Ten Best Of The West" awards just this month for a video he made commemorating 65 years of marriage to my mom.

My point is that although I am far from learning and practicing all I need to learn in working with oils, I decided to try to learn a new medium, so I'm taking a class from Rea Nagel, a colleague in my art club, once a week to learn a bit about watercolor.  It's fun.  I still love to work with oils and, as I said, will continue on my learning journey in that medium, but I think I'm going to like learning to work in watercolor as well.  It also may make it easier to do color studies when I'm traveling.  One can only hope that there is some symbiotic energy in working in more than one medium.
