While sitting along the cliffs in South Laguna, a parade of beach goers passed by. Singles showing off lots of skin, old geezers equipped with metal detectors, and lots of families with all of their towels and beach chairs and umbrellas and sand castle constructing gear.

This guy attracted everyone's alarmed attention (except his mom's, who was busy with her other charges) as he sucked on the end of one of his sand digging shovels as he walked happily along in the wake of his family.

Luckily for him and to the relief of everyone who tried unsuccessfully to attract his or his mom's attention, he made it all the way to the beach unharmed.

I painted this on a square wood 6"x6" panel that I had gessoed. It was another experiment with small formats and different supports as this had no canvas or linen on it. I found it just as easy to paint on and because there is no canvas weave, some of the brushwork is more apparent. I've decided to try to do more of these "people watching" scenes..... along with so much else I've been trying. Hope you enjoy them.
