Standing Strong - Monument Valley

Monument Valley has been on my "bucket list" for a while.  I am incredibly lucky to be able to travel with a group of terrific women painters.  We call ourselves the PAC6.  We all paint differently but we travel and adventure well together and we certainly enable one another to grow and learn and truly enjoy life.

This scene was around mid-day on our first full day in Monument Valley.  We had driven all through the Navajo Nation's trails which were allowed to be used without guides.  This scene was looking though pinions and scrub oaks to see one of the Three Sisters monuments.  On the left was part of the Rain God Mesa - perhaps Camel Butte.   The sun and Spearhead Mesa were at my back.  The walls of the mesa reminded me of the walls of Canyon de Chelly -- golden yellow on top with maroon, brown and orange-ish walls.  The sky was Cobalt and cerulean blue.   We ate near the rocks and the scrub oaks.
